The Division imports a chemical rock splitting substance from a number of sources and distributes the same to the Saudi market as a safe alternative to civil explosives. The chemical is mixed with water and poured into the pre-formed pores in the rock, leading to lateral expansion, which generates tremendous pressure and ultimately, rock breakage. This facilitates later removal with mechanical breaking equipment.
